Meet our Scholars

The Beit Scholarship Association (BSA) brings together present and former recipients of a Beit Scholarship. Guidance on joining the private Facebook page is on our home page. All scholars featured below have given the Trust permission to post their name on our website.

The purpose of the BSA is to help provide a resource to Scholars – past, present and aspiring – by setting out the disciplines, achievements and universities of previous Beit Scholars. Members of the BSA wishing to expand their knowledge base in particular academic or professional areas; to seek advice or help from those already established in their fields; or to begin or renew friendships or social contacts are all welcome to use the information provided here. The Trust asks only that BSA users are respectful of the access they acquire.

Each year, the Beit Trust receives over 300 scholarship applications which meet our criteria and have been accepted by the partner universities we work with in the UK and South Africa.  We are able, however, to grant no more than 20 scholarships annually.  In this context, the award of a Beit Scholarship is a major achievement and is either the springboard to a career, or a ladder to greater achievement from within an existing profession.

At the same time the Trust expects our scholars to give something back to their home countries, to re-invest their knowledge and skills, and to boost national human capital for the benefit of the people of Zambia, Zimbabwe and Malawi. This is the central tenet of Alfred Beit’s Will and the main reason the Beit Trust maintains its Scholarship program.

We would like, therefore, to introduce you to some of our scholars from the past 5 years.  We are proud of their achievements and association with us.
